What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York.

I was told I have to pay back my Long Term Disability carrier (my employer, Liberty Mutual) and, although I find it unfair because I paid into this insurance, don't believe I will have enough money to. I will be getting more than they are asking but because of LTD % of my paycheck, I am in debt to taxes, rent and credit cards. I am sure I will not have the full amount to pay them. I have been told that I can settle with another amount but I signed a paper that I will pay them back in full but there is no dollar amount. Can I still settle for a lower amount and, if so, how do I go about it? I have offered $7,500 of $13,399 so far because I don't know if I will have any more money left after debts. Maybe I can do $10,000 but really not sure so don't want to say yes to that at this time. Please help.

Thank you!
