What is the name of your state? California
I'd like to continue making payments on my auto loan while I am going through bankruptcy so I don't lose the vehicle. However, it seems that I can't list this payment as an expense since it is dischargeable. This artificially reduces my monthly expenses and sets up an unfavorable difference between my monthly income and expenses. Right now, my income exceeds my expenses by about $40/month but if I exclude the auto loan payment, the difference is about $380 a month. Is this going to be a problem for me? If it is, what can I do?

You MUST list payments on SECURED debts as an expense, like your car or a mortgage. Since you can't keep the car w/o continuing to pay for it, unless you state you're giving up the car, then you most certainly DO list the payment on your monthly expenses.
