What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TN
If Employee A is given a disciplinary write up can Employee B tell other employees that employee A was written up?? Isn't this violating Employee A's privacy discussing their personal file?

I guess my wording isn't the best. I am referring to the fact of the write up being in an employees personal file and now people that were not in the room when write up happen have been told of said write up through a person in the office. Can they do that? I thought write ups were confidential and were not to be advertised to other employees through other employees.

Why do you think they are confidential?

It's is in a personnel file so aren't they supposed to be kept under supervision that everyone doesn't have access to and no be spread around the company's other employees?

Such a right does not exist under the law. While your company may have a policy about it, it's not something you can go to court over.

Most such privacy policies are not for the benefit of the employee anyhow, but for the benefit of the employer. For example, it's better to keep employees in the dark about what other employees are making.

How did employee B find out about employee's A write up?

If Employee B is management or HR AND the employees that were told do not have a work-related need to know, then it's unprofessional but not illegal. The company might want to discipline B, or they might not, but A would not have any legal recourse.

If Employee B is neither management of HR but learned about it some other way, OR if B is management or HR but the employees had a work related reason to know, then the company is unlikely to care and A still will not have any legal recourse.
