Does a legal option exist, to dispute/challenge a previous medical diagnosis ?

That's a little bit of information that would have been useful in your first post.

Head over to Pilots of America and post anonymously on the medical topics board, and wait for an answer from Dr. Bruce. You'll want to include whatever diagnosis you've received. He will tell you exactly what you need to do to get your 3rd class medical.

Also, if you go the LSA (light sport) route, a 3rd class medical is not needed.

People with prior mental health issues CAN be issued medical certificates. Check out the link given to you by Steve and also check in to the AOPA's services...

If the OP was already denied the 3rd class based on his mental health history, then self-certification is not an option.

I keep forgetting that detail.

Once denied, you have to jump through all the hoops of getting the 3rd class. If you do that, you can let it expire and continue to self-certify.

Yes. I was officially denied, then the denial was officially withdrawn. But my approval of certification was still pending based on requested information that did not have. I had never seen my records from treatment as a minor so I just recalled what I could, read the DSM to see what applied to me, and nothing strictly did. I just received my records from hipaa request, and well that's that it seems. I don't appear to have much option.

You should look in to the legal services at the AOPA - for a (relatively) small fee, they can greatly assist in getting you through this process.
