What is the name of your state? MN

My son and his wife are young, 19 and 21. They were married less then 6 months and separated.

They have no assets, no children, weren't married long enough to merge any finances.

My son has been employed at the same place for a long time and his in the national guard.

She has been threatening to "tell the judge she was abused". Not the case in the least. She is perfectly able to get a job, but quits after the first paycheck and spends it all on clothes. She is a compulsive shopper.

When my son moved out, he left everything except his clothes, tools and cedar chest. He gave her everything else, all the furniture, wedding gifts everything. He kept nothing.

He is concerned that he will have to pay alimony. She is currently working and living rent free with her parents.

He was inquiring into a paralegal to handle the divorce. Is that adviseable.

Any suggestions. He has got little to know money saved up, he had to start over and purchase stuff for his apartment.

There's not a chance in hello that he will have to pay alimony. You might even be eligible for an annulment. Check your MN statutes. In fact, he could ask for 1/2 the value of the wedding gifts and anything valuable that she bought while they were "married". How much did he pay for her ring?

Dang I bet he wishes it was a beer tab top. That would be so much easier.

I did check Minnesota isnt an annulment state.

He does not want to take her to the cleaners. He wants to be done with the entire relationship. He is devastated because he found out she was cheating on Valentines day.

Sounds like there wouldnt be anything to lose in with a paralegal.

Thank you for your assistance.
