I am from New Jersey.
My husband and I are not legally separated. It was never decided in court how much child support he was to give me or if I am eligible for any alimony. He left a year ago.
He gives me a check each week that says "SUPPORT" The money he gives me each week I use partly for child support, ( I got a dollar amount from an attorney. The other part of the check is used to pay for his his truck payment and truck insurance and half the credit card which he left me with.
We are not on good speaking terms. He decided he wanted to file separately this year, so I said fine. Now, I believe he has claimed the money he gave me as something other than what it was used for. I did not claim any of the money he has given me on my tax return because as I said it was for child support and his bills, not for me or the house.
If someone can help me on what exactly the law is without a legal separation regarding money given to me and how to claim it on my tax return, i would greatly appreciate it.
Also, since I have not claimed any of this money this year,
was I supposed to?
Thank You,
