What is the name of your state? Illinois
I posted a few months back about a collection agency contactng me about a OLD (9 year old) captial one balance. one that has never been on my credit report or anything. And is obviously beyond the SOL.
This all happened just as I was about to close on my first house. You all adviced me to send a letter of dispute. Which I did. They warned me that it will take a few months, but they will get the proof that is somewhere on microfish.
so fine. i am waiting it out. Moved out and all. I didnt give them my new address or anything since I havent talked to them.. but the other day I did get a letter from the collection agency, and it was to my new address.. the letter said they have contacted Capital One and they are willing to just accept a certain amount of the balance payable in 2 installments.
So, I should keep ignoring this right? Really wait to see the proof before proceeding? Its not like I have the money to pay them off even if it was nicely diveded into 2 installments.
I guess my question is, I still can require proof, and I have the fact that debt is over 9 years old and has never been on my credit report working in my favor of not making payments to them right now... right?
