Do they have to pay me for 2 weeks if they ask me to leave after I put in notice?

My employer has been known to ask an employer to leave the premises immediatley following someone putting in a 2 week notice. If I put one in and they ask me to leave, do they have to pay me for those to weeks? I need the money so I need to get paid? But I want to be in good standing and put in a two week notice and not leave right before I start my new job.
