What is the name of your state? Great state of texas.

i was with a man for almost a year and a half. he beat me. There are 3 reports filed (they have pictures and everything), blah blah blah. The detective called me today and said that they decided not to prosecute. WTF?! I dont get it! They said my accountability isnt good because he'd beat me, id leave, then id go back. What do i do? Hes getting off scott free and im damaged for life. All of this started in june, we split by august. He ADMITTED to having sex with me when i was 15. He was 23 at the time. Now, im about to be 18 and am thinking of taking this to a lawyer for a civil suit.

what can i do? how do i do this? etc etc.
What type of lawyers do i look for? Will they try and cheat me out of money because im a bit nieve?

thanks so much.

I was burned yes. It took alot of poking and prodding to get me to realize what was happening and to get me to leave him.

i WANTED him prosecuted after we split. Even when we were together i gave a statement telling the detective what he had done. Dont lecture me about how dumb i was and all of my wrongs. I have 8k in medical bills slapping me in the face, thank you very much.

And let me guess, IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE 8K worth of medical bills slapping you in the face, THIS CIVIL SUIT WOULD NOT EVEN BE AN ISSUE! RIGHT??????? RIGHT!!!!!!

Next question: Do you really think this looser has 8k.

But they tried to help you and you did EVERYTHING in your power to hinder the prosecution ....You would have made a very bad wittness for the DA...with all of your previous statements that the Defense would have entered into evidence...

You have been given a expensive lesson...learn from it and thank God that you were able to walk away.

You didn't listen to previous advice that would have saved you the med bills and the f-ed up situation, so why should anyone here waste MORE of their time giving you advice that you'll totally ignore??????????????????????????????????????
You made your choices and now it's time to grow up, accept them and move on with your life! You can't expect to get rewarded and get rich by NOT following simple advice! Welcome to adulthood, where you have to fix your own mistakes and cannot rely on others to fix or pay them for you.

A defense attorney would eat you alive on the stand ...

"So, Miss Sugarsnacks, you have lied to the police and the prosecutor in the past by telling them nothing happened ... you are an admitted liar ... why should we believe you now? Do you have something to gain by my client's conviction? Or is it just vengeance?"

As others have said - thank God you are out of there.

When you are 18 you might be eligible for assistance through a local domestic violence program or social services. Until that time you are theoretically the responsibility of your parents. The fact that you have chosen to live an independent life was your doing. You made an "adult" choice, and now you have to pay the "adult" consequences of your actions.

You wanted to play grown-up, so congratulations, you are almost there! Welcome to the grown-up world where we tend to reap what we sow.

Move on and learn from this debacle.

Parents do get to the point of letting go of their kids, even though its very hard. Some kids just have to fall flat on their face before they start listoning to people who are trying to help them.At your age kids tend to think with thier hormones rather then their brains. They are just so in love. The truth is they don't even know what being in love really means.Kids will screw up their lives and blame everyone else rather then theirselves. You can't wait to have sex and live together like grownups do.You should have got away from this boy the first time he beat you! You are away from him now go on with your life, learn from your mistakes.Don't mess with him by taking him to court, like the advisers said they defence will chew you up and spit you out.You are an adult a whole lot longer then a child why rush it?
