I recieved a letter from court stating that i was being sued by a credit card company for an unpaid bill which i did not realize that there was still a balance since I have not been recieving monthly statements. All of the sudden I recieve a letter from the courts that I was being sued by a credit card company. The letter had no date, time or place to appear in court. I immediately called this place which is a collection agency for the credit card company. The signature said a law firm but the girl on the phone stated it was a collection agency. I made no arrangements at all with her as I had already decided and talked with a counselor from a credit counseling service (Ameridebt). I
called ameridebt back and they in turned called the same lady and told her that I was in a program with them. I then recieved a phone call at my place of employment telling me that I need to send them $100 by the 20th of each month. This was from the collection agency. They then sent me a letter stating that it was a consent judgement. I have no idea what that means. I called Ameridebt and told them what is going on. They told me not to send those people any money. The proposals have already been sent out and that I have already sent them money to send to those people. My question is can i trust Ameridebt or should I
go ahead and send the $100 to the collection agency? I certainly don't want to go to court. The collection agency said that if I don't send them the $100 they can take our income tax return, cars, attach wages etc. Ameridebt is telling me to ignore those people and collection agency is telling me I have to. What do I do? One last question. The card is in my name. Can they come after my husbands wages for it or just mine?? Please tell me what to do. I
have had many sleepless nights over this. I am from Ohio. Thanks. BB
