What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee
My jod has issued a social media policy ateating that we are not allowed to mentinon them or anyone or any of the business clients that are connected to them. Not even if the statement or opinon is even related to them or anything conected. We are to allowed to express our opinon even we were to have shop there and we were miss treated and wnted to express our feelings about on facebook or myspace for example. Is this a violation of my civil rights. My freedom of speech, my freedom of press. I would be thankful if anyone could help me.

Put it this way - it would not be illegal for your employer to fire you if you violated their policy.

So do what you want, just be mindful of the consequences.

These are rights granted by the government and restrict what the goverment can do to the citizens of the US. Your employer is not the governement.

Correction: These are rights granted by God and protected by government.

The government cannot grant rights -- it can only restrict them.

That depends on your religious bent. What your god does may be different than mine. And your God did not right the Constitution.

No, God did not write the Constitution. It was written by men who acknowledged that Man has natural rights (provided by your deity or simply as a factor of your being human - if deity is a problem for you).

Regardless, this may not be the place for the impending discussion on the religious beliefs of the Framers. My point was that governments do not grant - they restrict.

It is at times a misconception that the 1st Amendment is applicable to those outside the government. While it is true the 1st can bind a private entity in rare cases, such is not the case here.

Laws can be both positive AND negative in nature.

The Bill of Rights does grant rights, the 1st 8 being the "specific bill of rights".

If they did not grant rights they may have been called the "Bill of Prohibitions" as Alexander Hamilton suggested in the Federalist Papers.

Actually, I believe it was the Declaration of Independence which speaks to debtcollector'. From the relevant portion:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
