I have a friend that has a job and was fired. She had told me that the other employees were doing drugs and at times dealing drugs at work. She had approached the manager about it, and the action had ceased for a week. Well some time went by and she had witnessed drug deals going on in the back and the drug use had started again. She approached the manager again and this time was verbally firm in her words. It was causing her stress on the job because she was the oldest person working there, she is in medical school, owns a home, and has kids. Basically has a lot to lose and was afraid because of the minors she would ultimately be charged with the crimes. She was also afraid for her well being and losing her job cause the economy sucks right now. She had then found out later that the manager was the one that was allowing this behavior to happen. She had gotten into some arguments over it and was then fired from her job for being a disgruntled employee. Does she have a case? Is this the right place for this question? Any advice would help

A case for what:confused:. Please tell your friend the next time she sees a drug deal going down to call the police.

hostile work environment, severance from owner or take him to court. He may not want to risk the publicity, as the store has in the past gotten raided on this by the sheriffs.
She was afraid she was going to go down with them because she was the oldest or she would have. I agree i would have called too
The owner is also multi millionaire.

Her termination was not illegal. She was fired for causing drama at work and possibly inviting more police attention.

It's a very bad idea to get between drug users and their drugs. Next time let the authorities handle it.

She had gotten into some arguments over it and was then fired from her job for being a disgruntled employee. Sure sounds like she was fired for arguing with the boss/co-workers and causing a ruckus, not because she objected to the drug use.

Does she have a case? No.

hostile work environment, This does not constitute a HWE.

So you're thinking she should try to extort money from the employer? Either cough up severance or she'll go to the media and the police? Um, not a good idea unless your friend WANTS to be criminally charged herself.

A hostile work environment (HWE) as defined by law means that employees are experiencing illegal discrimination and/or illegal harassment. Harassment and discrimination are illegal when they're based on things like race, gender, religion (only if the targeted employees are over 40), and/or disability. Nothing in your post indicates that your friend was in a HWE as defined by law.

Employers are not legally required to provide severance pay to their terminated employees.

She definitely needs to file for unemployment. That she may very well be entitled to. But otherwise, she can't sue anyone for anything.
