My neighbor was renovating their home when their unlicenced contractor damaged the exterior wall. Because the exterior wall was exposed, it was discovered that both of our homes had dry rot. We were both demanded to repair dry rot by the city. We have side by side 90 year old homes in San Francisco. I'm told that most homes of this age will have some dry rot. Later it was discovered that my neighbor does not have their own light well drain and that their home was directing the rainwater runoff to my property and using my drain. Water must have also gone in between our homes exactly where dry rot was discovered. My neighbor refuses responsibility because they say that this was done prior to their ownership of the home. I am getting conflicting responses. Some say it it is still their responsibility because they are the owners when this problem was discovered for the first time. What do ya think? Thanks
