I have been off of welfare now for about a year 1/2. While I was on I would get $50.00 out of what he sent. He sends $300.00 every month and now they are only giving me $55.00. When I asked how can they still keep my daughters money they said that have to get paid back for the few years we were on public assistance. Is this true? Can they keep her money?

ok, I can see mayb them taking the money back that I got for her but not for myself and other child, thats not right because this is HER money. Im Being evicted now cause I dont have all the money for our rent every month, and they wont help us but are quick to take her check.

I hate to break it to you, but DSS has every right to take the NCP's CS payments, whether it's from Father 1 or Father 2. SOMEONE must reimburse them for the money they've shelled out to you. If you start working, they'll garnish your check. If you hit the lottery, they'll garnish your check.

The system is so screwed. They would prefer you get on Welfare rather than have a job for their budget, but once you're on Welfare, they treat you like sh-- and complain that too many people are using the system. In reality, they are using YOU.

My girl's situation is so crazy. She gets FS only, and they offer her child care reimbursement for being in school. BUT, they require her to list her children's father (which is me) with "as much information as possible" so they can come after ME for the money that SHE gets.

Your best bet is to go to EAU and get assistance from them since they partially put you in that situation in the first place. Even though you'll be getting right back on Welfare. I wish you the best of luck with that backwards ass system.

What is EAU? And I can't get back on welfare because I'm not receiving SSI. I wonder if I can still put my kids back on, hmmmmm.

EAU - Emergency Assistance Unit. Center that places homeless families in The Bronx. Where are you in NY? In your situation, it's tricky, but they will place you in an apartment if you are homeless, regardless of your situation.

Here's the tricky part. When you get to an apartment, NYS Housing permits that you use your SSI as part of your income, but SSI will NOT let you state that you spent your SSI income on rent. Funny, right?
