first of all, i live in the state of illinois. i received a dui in august of 1999. after a few court dates, i pleaded guily and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a total of 22 various hours of alcohol education and i had to attend a victim impact panel. I had a year of court supervision in which I could complete the community service, education and VIP.

i was sentence in october of 1999, so i had until the end of october in 2000 to complete the requirements. I did exactly that, and when i completed them i contact the county clerk's office and faxed all the paperwork proving my completion to them.

now, in june of 2001 i received a tip from a local police officer that there is a warrant out for my arrest in that county regarding the dui. i called the county and there was an warrant issued because i did not pay the court costs and also failed to appear in court in january of 2001.

the bottom line is that i completed the requirments of the court supervision, was unaware of the court costs and never received a notice to appear in court.

i found out about the warrant yesterday, paid the court costs today and am schedule for a "walk in" hearing on august 3rd to explaine why i never paid the court cost. basically, what can i do to correct a situation? if i was aware of the court costs, i would have paid them last year!
thanks!
