The "look back" period can be as much as 25 years in New York but it appears for your offenses (absent any extraordinary facts not yet disclosed), you would be subject to a 10 year look back period, as it concerns penalties and license suspensions. That said, with your history, Uber seems a smart alternative to driving again.

Why are you "hiding" by moving from country to country? Certainly it can't be to avoid the consequences of a misdemeanor, can it? Problems with your passport are caused by what?

Wrong again. And I never had an accident while drinking nor any charge of speeding or anything else, and this town is nuts. You used to have to do something wrong when the greatest generation was in charge and not the nanny state. Whatever.

Driving drunk *is* doing something wrong. You probably have a problem with Leandra's Law too.

It is very easy to avoid getting in trouble for driving drunk: before you start drinking, make plans to not drive.

Yup, it could. The look back for 5 DUIs is a lifetime in NY, and maybe, I just want to skip the probation, rehab etc and go to a cheap country I can afford without being a state ward, where few people have cars and public transport is great. (What really pisses me off is if they had a real test for being stoned I'd have passed.) Say I stay there for 7 years and need a passport to remain, will the USA screw me on THAT? And I'll
have to come back for the probation THEN. So I guess I'll just relax and take it...lol arghhh

You can't stay in any country longer 6 months a year unless you have $20k/year to spend.

You are correct. Five alcohol/drug-related driving convictions in New York over a lifetime means you are permanently barred from obtaining a driver license in New York (with a few exceptions). Good for New York. Most states return dangerous drivers to the roads.
