My work permit expired Oct 17. I have a receipt from INS Sept 21 with 100.00 paid. I know it takes up to 3months before I can get a new one.Since it is a renewal is there not any way of speeding up the process? Can I go to INS again and see where it is at right now? My employer desperately needs me and he asked if I was able to get a letter from INS he would take me back asap. Of course INS declined. I do not understand, here I am I want to work and want to do it legally and INS does not want to help!!! Where is the justice.

Please help...

I feel for you man.. been there, done that.. luckily the company I was working for never realised that my EAD had expired and I continued to work until I go the new one. Prior to that, I tried to call, write and even went into the local INS office.. result: nothing.

This is why people are told, apply for new documents from the INS at least 3 months in advance.

As to whether your employer would get into trouble if you continued to work, unlikely. What you are not able to do is apply for new jobs as you have no way of proving that you are approved to work, but have no document.

Your only option is to write to your congressman and ask for help that way.
