What is the name of your state? VA

I have been using Equifax fairly often to verify my credit standing, and noticed there are a lot of old accounts on here which are resulting in a "too much available credit" remark. All of them are paid and were in good standing, but I wish to close them. Some haven't been used in years. I have names and addresses and intend to write letters closing the accounts and bringing available balances to 0, but the full account numbers are not listed. They all end in XXXX. I don't have these cards/statements anymore. Will this hinder my attempts to close these accounts, or is there other information I can provide to verify??? I have moved many times over the past few years and don't know all of the billing addresses either, but I do have an uncommon last name. Suggestions please???

On your credit report, there should be an address or phone number of each creditor listed, at least here was on mine. If so, you may be able to call/write and obtain the full account number but this isn't normally necessary.

I just did the same thing (in Michigan); I sent a standard letter asking the account to be closed and included the creditor and whatever account #'s I had (most ending in XXXX). Equifax contacted the creditors and my accounts were closed.

A lot of your score is based on how long your accounts have been open, even if you are not using them.
Be careful in closing some of the old ones. Your score may drop some. Also, be careful in closing some of the ones that have a high credit limit. Even if you don't use them and they show open, it still helps.
