What is the name of your state? ct

hello. i'm currently on an f1 visa and allowed part-time work on campus. i'm thinking of applying for ead to be able to work outside school as tuition and fees have jacked up twice since i first registered. i've some questions:

1. what documents should i submit with the form? how long does it take to process?
2. can i continue with my current part-time job at school supposing i get approval for economic harship ead? i mean, can i do both jobs (of course within the maximum required hours)?
3. how will this ead affect my optional practical training after i finish my courses? (or it won't??)
4. is it advisable to do this?

studying is very expensive and gas prices aren't helping, either. i know it will take some time before this eco. hardship ead will be approved but if it will help me make the most of the hours i'm allowed to work, i'm willing to wait. i have 5 terms to go in school but currently allowed work up to 14 hours/week on campus.

thank you for your time.

Since there already is an open thread about this "case", there is no need to have a second one. Keep everything in the same thread so that readers can get all the facts.

hi, thanks for your interest and sorry if i opened another thread unnecessarily.

i did get the chance to speak to the intl advisor before she left for vacation (i think til june). i can only do as much as 20 hours/wk during school term and 40 hrs/wk otherwise but with appropriate authorization. if my plan is to maximize the 40 hrs/ work allowed this summer, economic ead may not help me bec. it may be approved/disapproved beyond the time frame. i was advised instead to register for a summer course that requires actual on-the-job training sometime late june. this is ok (even if i have to pay tuition) however the class is already full. supposedly, authorization will only entail the intl advisor's ok unlike if i will go through economic hardship ead that involves lengthy processing of dhs/uscis, i believe.

i've decided that i'll just go on with what i have right now 14hr/wk work and apply for economic hardship ead in the process. as i remember, the int'l advisor says that its not really the best option (due to processing) but somehow, possible. if approved within the summer, great!

What authorization do you need to work 40 hours during the summer? You are allowed on an F-1 to work full time during your breaks... I'm not sure why you're not doing that?

i'm only allowed 14 hrs/week where i'm working on-campus. there's no telling if this 14 hrs can be upped to 20, let alone 40 because of budget constraints. hence, i'd like to seek other opportunities outside campus through an ead (economic hardship)....
