i live in Connecticut. I had just found out that the school that my 14 year old daughter goes to, reported her absences,21 days out of the school year, to the juvenile courts. The way I found out was, the court called me telling me they had a date for my daughters court appearance. I was astounded! I asked why no one notified me about it, Before, this phone call?
My daughter missed days from school, for various illnesses, no different than any one else. The flu was pretty bad this year. Of all the times she missed, I either called the school, to excuse her, or the school would call me,and she would be excused, or I would send a note to school the next day she would go in.
I need to know what the responsibility of the school is, in notifying me, if they feel her absences are a problem, BEFORE they report it to Juvenile court.
The school claimed they wrote me a letter in November, but that was After I called the school and complained of some boys sexually harassing my daughter, and about the school counsler hounding my daughter, because she wasn't acting "Happy go lucky" and it bothered my daughter. The Principle told me "Boy's will be boy's" And I got a letter a week or two later, regarding her absences. And the days she missed, were because she had her tonsils out, and had sinus problems.
I'd appreciatte, help with knowing the Law , in this situation. Thanks, DoVin
