I live in Bloomington, Indiana. My 73 yr.old mother lives in Indianapolis. She lives alone, is obese, has developed diabetes II from the weight. She has fallen at least three times in the last two years. Most recently she fell about two weeks ago, but I just found out about it today. She will not go to the hospital.
I am divorced and going to graduate school here at Indiana University to obtain a teaching license in Special Education. Living on loans and in graduate housing. I visit my mother as much as possible but she won't clean herself, do laundry or clean anything. I know she has an addiction to food, but my question is this: My younger sister and her husband think the way to handle her is just to go up every weekend (they live in Bloomington also), and take care of her by doing laundry, trash, cleaning, and taking her out to eat. I refuse to be a part of this, because I strongly believe that my mother should be hospitalized for her obesity and diabetic conditions. Her legs are swollen and red; she takes all kinds of medications precribed to her by a general practioner dr. who is also obese and diabetic. Question is: Is there any legal way I can make her go to the hospital?
