What is the name of your state? North Carolina
I have been reading past threads on emancipation, but my questions still aren't answered. I'm petrified to apply for emancipation until I understand the process, and I am sure that I would at least have a chance of being emancipated by the state of North Carolina.
My situation - I'm currently 16 years old. I am homeschooled, and I live with my Grandparents. I am completely convinced that both of my Grandparents are mentally unstable. They will yell and scream at me for things I have no idea about, and then 20 minutes later act like everything is ok. But that isn't my problem. My Grandmother is abusive, both physically and emotionally, and her husband (my step-grandfather so to speak) can be as well.
What prompted me to look for emancipation procedures is the incident that happened tonight. They were screaming, I was crying, and then my Grandmother picked up a very large gardening tool and tried to hit me in the head with it. It weighs about 10 pounds, and has large spikes protruding from the front. It is used to dig up soil as you're walking along. I managed to get away from her and hide in my room. The entrance to my room is so small that neither of them can get through. I wanted to call the police, but the last time I tried I was punished, severely.
I want to know if I would be at all eligible for emancipation. I am not allowed to get my drivers license, or maintain a job, so I have no job history. I work from my computer designing websites and computer graphics. I have many adult friends who really want to get me out of this situation but I don't want to run away. They're willing to pay for bills, food, medical, ect. If I present this in my emancipation case, would they take that into consideration? Or would they look at the fact that I can't get anywhere myself and have never worked at a real job?
Your responses are much appreciated.
