emancipation for in state tuition

My 19 year old son is a college student in Colorado and for his first year has paid out of state tuition. His dad and I live in Nebraska and can no longer afford the out of state tuition.
This summer our son is living and working in Colorado and gets no support from us. He would like to be emancipated so he would qualify for in-state tuition and be able to pay for college next year on his own. What do we need to do to get the ball rolling on this? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

My response:

Emancipation ?

What are you talking about ?

News Flash ! !

Your son is a legal adult. Since 1972, the legal age of adulthood has been 18 years of age. It's Federal law. It's in every State !

Where have you been ?

Didn't it strike you as odd that 18 year old's were voting ?

All your son has to do is satisfy the residency requirements of the State of Colorado by changing all of his legal documents, college registration, mail box, driver's license, utilities, etc., that his State of domicile and residency is Colorado.

I'll bet you that his current driver's license lists Nebraska, doesn't it.

Good luck to you, and him. He's been an adult now for a year. You owe him no more assistance, money, or anything else. Whatever you give him, you do so voluntarily, and not required or mandated by law.
