What is the name of your state? Texas

Ive been on my own since i was 15, ill be 17 in november. Im wanting to go through with emancipation, as my boyfriend is being charged with statutory rape and is also being investigated for an assault against me. He didnt lay a finger on me, and im hoping with the investigation theyll find out what really happened and leave us alone. He's 24, so there is an age difference and we've been living together for some odd months. I talked to an investigater today, and he advised that i go back to my parents. My parents dont want me there, dont have a place for me to sleep and we're not on good terms. We never really got along. My boyfriend wants me to go back to my parents until all this **** is over with, but i dont want to. My home is my apartment, not my parents. The detective said that he was going to call me in as a run a way, but if i went back home...he wouldnt do it. Im wondering if theyll send cops out to check if im back at my parents. He's really paranoid that they will, and he doesnt trust cops. Hes afraid theyll arrest him for me being here..and hes scared theyll come to our apartment and take him and me away. Is this realistic? Another thing that the detective told me was that i should stay completely away from him until all of this is over. Thats kind of hard to do, since we do live together and i have no where else to stay. How long do investigations usually take? I found out they were looking into this on friday, and he's taking our statements tomorrow. Is that usually fast for them? Im looking for a time frame, so i know what to expect.

what im wanting to know is how do i start the emancipation process? who do i contact? what do i need to do? How long does it usually take, does it cost anything? Besides having to have my own job, and being self relient, living away from my parents and being atleast 16..what else should i know?

What should i expect from the cops and the investigation? How do invesgtigations usually work? any other advice would be really helpful!

thanks

First off, trying to get emancipated isn't going to save your boyfriend from the charges that will be filed against him. You really need to listen to the Detective, your boyfriend could get hit with additional charges if you don't (harboring a runaway, contributing to the delinquency of a minor....)

Do you even have a job? If so, how much do you make?

Im not getting emancipated due to my boyfriend, ive been meaning to do it, with or with out him. I do have a job, and i make 9$ an hour. I do alot of nanny work and am cpr certified. I work about 40 hours a week at most, 30 at the least.

Emancipation means that you should be able to support yourself entirely. No living with a bf, your own transportation, health ins, etc....

It also means being able to prove that you can make good decisions. If you are reported as a runaway that will not help your case.

I'll be honest with you though, emancipation is extremely difficult and rare. The fact that you are living with someone doesn't make you appear to be self-sufficient. You will need to prove these things to a Judge.

The fact that you are living with a guy that is breaking the law isn't a good thing either.
