I am in Montana. My child has become emancipated but I have to pay child support, insurance and her medical bills. I want to appeal this decission but do not know how to go about this proceedure. the judge used to work for the legal firm that represented my ex and my daughter. I am unemployed, cant afford a lawyer legal fees, etc nor can I afford the outrageous amount of child support I must pay. what can I do? Kaycee

Go to the courthouse and ask them for forms to emancipate a minor. They may have some kind of family law facilitator that can help you fill them out. You will probably also have to fill out forms to terminate child support.

Some states hold that emancipation is at a certain age. If your ex continues to collect support after this age, you can sue to recover the money. Go to and/or call the courthouse right away.
