What is the name of your state? CA

I would like to first of all thank all of you who used your precious time to help us in need.
I am at my wits end. My employer who is threatening to take legal action against stating that I violate the non-compete agreement. I understand that non-compete are usually unenforceable in CA. My employer is in Michigan but I have been performing my work in CA and it is an employer in CA who would like to hire me.
I did not remember signing a non-compete with my employer but they insisted I did. I did not have a copy of the non-compete when I joined the company. Since they threatened to take legal action, I asked for a copy of the non-compete agreement so that I can take it to a local attorney for advice.
When I received the faxed copy of the agreement, I found out that the signature looks forged or super-imposed onto the signature line. In addition, it was only the last page of the agreement that has the signature. They could totally add anything they want to the agreement since other pages of the agreement did not have my signature/initials.
What action can I take against them? What can I do to prove my suspicions
Thank you for your help. I am in desperate need of help.

They company is threating to sue if i work for a customer in California that is their customer. The customer does not want to lose me and want to contract for a couple of months to finish up the project. I offered to continue to work at the employer for couple of months but they refused. Customer is upset that my employer is blocking this and want to contract directly. I am the sole provider for my family with 3 little kids and they are preventing me from working thus impacting my income. I am not sure if that qualify as a damage.
Thank you very much.

I also wanted to add, I do not want to sue them for anything. All I was asking is to proof that the non compete is not effective.
Thanks.

Thanks.

The only way to get that for sure is to have a court issue a judgment in a lawsuit and have the judgment withstand an appeal.

Thank you for helping me out Senior Judge. This is my first time facing an issue like this. I apologize if I ask silly questions. But do I need to go to an attorney to obtain the court judgment? How do I go about doing that? Do I need to obtain or I should say do I have the right to obtain the "original non compete" so that I can prove that it was tampered with.
Thank you so much for your valuable advice.
