I was supposed to receive my paycheck from my employer on 4/20. That day a company meeting way held where they basically told us that someone owes us a lot of money and until they pay them then they can't pay us. What should I do? What's the time allowance on how long they have to pay me before legal action can be taken?

There is no 'waiting period' for non-payment of wages. Basically, at this point, you are an unsecured creditor, just like any other vendor that sells product to the company with delayed billing.

In fact, you could initiate legal proceedings against them today for your wages. And, unless there is something else in play (contract, unions, etc.) to prevent it, they could also terminate you today.

At this point, you have waited 2 business days for your overdue pay, and they now owe you for some additional days (since close of pay period for check on 4/20, plus since 4/20). What is your employer saying about getting your pay or some temporary compensation??? Get a specific date for payment from your employer. Explain that you would like to help as much as possible, but your creditors (rent, groceries, utilties, etc) aren't going to wait too long for THEIR 'paycheck'. Then, if you don't get paid on the set date, you will need to get another job (that pays in real money) and consider taking your former to court. And, remember, it sounds like this one might be a good candidate for bankruptcy.... meaning you may NEVER get paid. Don't make the debt larger by working too long without pay.
