What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Connecticut

I would like to know if CT has a law which declares or states what exactly is part time employment and to state if there's a minimum number of hours an employer must provide. I worked for an employer who did not provide me any hours for almost 3 weeks and I believe this is illegal.

If you do know, please post a link to the information you provide - I am not in the liberty of believing you.

Thanks for those who can help!

Your belief is just as wrong here as it was on the other board. I suggested there that you post a link to the law that guarantees you x hours a week. Found it yet?

Oh, that's right, it doesn't exist.

It is not illegal, generally an employer is allowed to set their schedules as they see fit. Of course, if there is a bonafide employment contract that requires a certain number of hours, then there could be recourse there.

You may be entitled to unemployment compensation for the reduction in hours.

I guess that's what I get for being a monogamous forum guy.

Too many people don't understand how the laws work.

The laws say what the employer MUST do and what they MUST NOT do. They don't say what an employer MAY do.

In the absence of a law that says the employer MUST schedule you for x hours per week, or alternately a law that says the employer MUST NOT schedule you for fewer than x hours per week, then the employer MAY schedule you for as many or as few hours as he wishes. If there is no law addressing it (AND THERE ISN'T), the employer gets to decide. And he can decide on zero if he wishes.

If the poster doesn't believe us, he is free to post a link to the law that says we're wrong. If he can't find a law, that supports our position, not his.

I've already suggested he file for unemployment. Evidently he doesn't like that idea.

Here, I'll give him the information here too.

http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/gendocs/contact.html

That's the contact info for the CT state department of labor. If there's a law that says your employer is required to schedule you for any particular number of hours and that it's illegal to schedule you for zero hours, they're the ones who would enforce it. Monday, call them. See what they say.

In anticipation of the OG effect, if you're planning to come back and give us ANY answer other than, "You guys were right", be warned ahead of time that I will publicly call you a liar on every law board I can find (and I post regularly on five) unless you either post a link to the law they give you that says we're wrong, or provide the name, direct phone number and title of the person who told you that so I can call and confirm it myself. And I will continue to call you a liar until or unless you admit it or provide the back up info.

THAT'S how positive I am that we're right.

OP, the law doesn't change from forum to forum. And since you are prepared to disbelieve us anyway, why are you posting on these forums?
