After bieng kicked out of a bar my friend and i were pulled over by the florida highway patrol. I was very intoxicated so my friend was driving. He was also drunk, got d.u.i. and was promptly hauled away. i then drove the car and was pulled over by the sheriffs department and got a d.u.i., no less than a few blocks away. i do not recall many facts from the evening. but i would think the police officer should not have left me on the side of the road drunk with a vehicle at my disposal. do i have a valid point? should i pursue this?

Yes you have a valid point.
The police officer should have personally called you at home to request that you not go out to the bar with your friend, consume alcoholic beverages and then drive a vehicle.
Especially when your friend was stopped for dui you could have been the innocent party. But no, you were drunk as a skunk and tried to drive off and escape rather than be arrested just like your drinking buddy.

You have a good case. Sue the police department for not shooting you when you acted like an idiot.
