What is the name of your state? new york

My grandfather passed away.

Few years ago I paid security deposit for his apartment.

Apartment's building management agrees to issue the check for security deposit only to grandfather's estate's account.

a bank advised me that for such account 2 things are required: estate certificate and estate tax id.

I obtained estate papers at the Surrogates Court

but

WHERE DO I GET ESTATE TAX ID???

Thanks!

From your friends at the local IRS office :D

You need to file Form 56 with the Internal Revenue Service establishing your position as executor of the estate.
You can download a copy here.
