I reside in GA! I recently was forced to resign from my job for a dirty drug screen for THC. The test was given after a staff meeting and everyone was tested the same day! It wasn't difficult for them to figure out what happened to me! The thing is they have told the residents in the group home where I was employed!

Now! I have some very strong opinions on the medicinal use of Marijuana! Indeed I have extenuating physical circumstances having been ripped apart- literally- at 17 by a guard rail I was slung into from the back on a motorcycle I was a passenger on! It cut off my rt. arm, broke my back, crushed my pelvis into 9 pieces, destroyed all the ligaments in my right knee, and almost took off both legs at the thighs!
I have a great deal of pain- everyday! I just want to function and work like everyone else! I want to make a living too! I don't live off the government teet!

I was a model employee! In fact- this came about as a way of getting rid of me as I was exemplarey(sp) and there was no other option! The residents (teens) really loved me alot and sometimes they really let that show! Unfortunately my co-workers - instead of taking my lead and treating the residents with great respect and love they got jealous and started an underhanded campaign to get rid of me! I stood out among those who simply didn't give a damn and just wanted to do their job and get paid! It was obvious to everyone!

So now a resident has contacted me and said that my ex-co-workers are talking smack about me! They told them I failed a drug test and was given the option of resigning or getting fired! I resigned of course! I'm simply outraged! I mean- ok! They got their way! I'm gone! We live in a small, redneck GA town! Must they now try to destroy my character? If they're trying to turn the residents against me it's actually having the opposite effect! I need some advice! I don't feel as though this is worth the character assasination- it isn't like I killed anyone here! If I had been in CA it most likely wouldn't be an issue! So I'm definitely moving! Thanks!

They didn't destroy your character, you did that all on your own. You need to stop all contact with these teenagers, especially if they have their own issues ~ they certainly don't need to be in the middle of yours.

You can find solace in knowing that these kids can learn from your mistakes. If you do drugs, you will lose whatever you value. These kids only need look at you to see the proof.

If this had been in California, your A$$ would have been kicked out so fast your head would still be spinning. Please if you are going to continue to do drugs stay out of our state.

That smells of completely unethical behavior right there. No teen in a group home that you are charged with providing care/supervision with on a professional level should have any way of contacting you outside of the work place. So, how many of these kids did you give your contact information to and did your (former) employer know that you allow these children to contact you outside of work?

I was the assistant director of a group home before. Had I found out about this, you would have been unemployed far before I found out you were a pot head.

So you think it's OK to do illegal drugs, you think nobody should be upset with your illegal drug use, yet you find fault with someone telling the truth about your illegal drug use.

You didn't actually ask a legal question, but I'll guess you want to file a defamation suit.

Truth is a defense against defamation, so your suit would fail.

I've got news for you, sweetie. No one had to make up a reason to get rid of you. You live in an at-will state, meaning that you can be fired for any reason that does not specifically violate the law, and in your state there are very few reasons that violate the law. All they had to do was say, Your services are no longer required, and PRESTO! You don't work there any more.

You HANDED them a reason all on your own-i-o. And they can take out a billboard on Rte 95 telling the reason you were fired if they want to.

You DID fail a drug test. There is no law in any state prohibiting an employer, or anyone else, from telling the truth.

And no, contrary to what you have heard, there is also no law in any state prohibiting an employer from saying that you were fired, or why you were fired.
