I live in Michigan. My ex-boyfriend wants to adopt my two daughters from a previous marriage. He wants to give them his name and will probably try to get custody if I consent to the adoption. At this point the girls' father pays child support but is not in their lives. He will not consent to the adoption. I do not want him to adopt them or lose custody, they are my children. He is using this to try and destroy my current and any future relationships I may have. I do not believe he is concerned with the girls' best interests. I have offered him visitation on a regular schedule but he insists on it being legal. He wants to get back together with me but I can not be in a relationship with this man. He tells my daughters terrible things about the person I am currently with and has caused my oldest to rebel against me. My daughters love him and refer to him as their father but I don't want to give him any legal rights to them. He claims that because he has one bill sent to this address that he has legal residence in my home and the police would not stop him from coming into my house and taking all of my belongings. He also wants to take my car which was put in his name for insurance purposes. He also wants money for things that we bought or he gave to me when we were together. I don't want to put him out of my daughters' lives but I want him to stop harassing me. What should I do and can he legally do any of this?
