What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA

We own a small service company with less than 10 employees. I had a guy move here from across the country and take a position. He left within the month after complaining non-stop about how much he was being paid (hourly, agreed upon) and bad mouthing the other employees. I mailed his final check for two days of work, minus child support and taxes. He then sent me an email with a completely fabricated paragraph stating that we had agreed on him getting a retroactive (!) raise by $3.00 an hour, and that he expected a check delivered to his address (back home across the country), or he was going to slander us to accounts and current and future customers. I'm at a loss of what to do. We NEVER told him he was getting a raise, and it turned out he couldn't even be licensed in his trade here. He loves to talk about his dad who is an attorney (and this guy is 45), so I know I have to react somehow. I just have no idea what to do- I have a call into my attorney, but this is keeping at all levels of stress this evening. Any ideas?

You have an attorney? Yes? Let s/he handle it. stop all out-going communication..let the "person" feel free and clear to contact you though. ;)

Yes, I will let him handle it...and I decided the same thing, although I have plenty of choice words. Thanks.

I get it...Several times today I have had "choice words". Alas I had to bite my lip...or control my typing. Such is life...;)
