"Warranties sold in conjunction with the product are taxable. Warranties sold subsequent to the sale of the product are not taxable."

Is this rule true in California? I have been unable to find anything on the BOE web site or by Googling. Thanks if anyone has the definitive answer!

I called the BOE and got my answer. Thought I'd post it here rather anyway rather than remove the original post:

"Optional maintenance contracts sold subsequent to the sale of the product are not subject to sales tax."

The key being the "optional" part of the original maintenance contract.
