What is the name of your state?GA

If a student is in the US and is out of status and needs to be reinstated, can they complete the reinstatement process here in the US or is there a definite requirement for them to leave and re-enter?

I am thinking if they leave, then, they face the trouble of not being allowed back into the US, due to the length of time being out of status.
