What is the name of your state? Virginia

What is it called when a professor gives a failing grade on a project such as a research paper that is far below the student's actual academic performance level on it? On what grounds could this grade be justified? How can this be resolved (outside of the school) if it is a private institution?

Since you do not appear to understand where to post your story, it might be called good thinking on the part of the professor.

Wait, I got it, he is asking if it is okay for him to harass the professor while the poor person is working as retribution for a bad grade!!

What is it called when a professor gives a failing grade on a project such as a research paper that is far below the student's actual academic performance level on it? Most likely that the student has an inflated idea of how well he or she performed.

On what grounds could this grade be justified? The teacher's judgement.

How can this be resolved (outside of the school) if it is a private institution? It can't. Your only recourse is to attempt to resolve this with school administration.

I posted it in here because i didn't see an area on the website that covered treatment in educational institutions. the closest setting similar to this that I could find was job related harrassment.

i really didn't appreciate the snide comments that were made, however if you would point me to the appropriate forum, i would gladly post it in there. the paper that was completed recieved rave reviews from other people in the profession, however the professor himself has expressed an animus toward me for the longest time, and i believe that it's disability related (i'm hearing impaired.....and this entire ordeal pertains to disability related harrassment, which is another reason why i posted in here).

again, i didn't appreciate the snide comments. i don't prejudge individuals and i am pretty open minded, but the comments in here really don't disprove the supposed stereotypes that lawyers are *******s. for those of you that did or who do (in the future) offer their professional opinions, i thank you.

um

Education Law under Government and Administrative Law is where this should be.

Not sure you won't get the same answers though.

You didn't think the Education forum would have been more appropriate? It's under Government and Administrative Law.

The fact that it may relate to disability harassment, still does not make it employment related. This forum is CLEARLY labeled as being for employment issues.

I think Beth answered your questions fairly well.

Edited to include:

BTW, your post did not contain ONE WORD about any kind of disability discrimination. We don't know anything about your situation that you don't tell us. If you post again, I suggest you include all the information you want considered. They don't read minds on the Education forum any more than we do here.

thank you for showing me where the education forum is located. i did not know it would fall under government. seems to me that giving it its own category would have been more appropriate.

i didin't feel the need to go any deeper at the time. i merely asked some questions, amongst them what the term is when a student is given a grade in something that does not reflect his or her academic performance. i was under the impression that if the grade recieved does not reflect the student's academic ability, then the professor may be in violation of the state's falsification standard. at least that is what i think it is called, and it would fall under the professional standards commision of whatever state the institution was in.

i was asking for more clarification on this standard, if the state of virginia actually does have this, and would private instituions in the state fall under their jurisdiction.

again, they were questions that could have easily been answered without further ado. unfortunately they haven't yet been answered to my satisfaction. i did NOT see the need to post my autobiography and mention my disability until the tasteless comments were made.

The people who post here are experts on employment law. We are not necesarily going to know education law. If you want a satisfactory answer, you will have to post it in the correct section. There's a reason why the forums are differentiated.

If the disability has an affect on why the professor behaved the way he did, that will affect the answer. You can leave the information out and get a potentially wrong answer, or you can include it and get a better one. Your choice.
