I'm currently living in China and visited a local walmart to pick up some random supplies and found a too good to be true priced bottle of gin. I purchased the bottle and found it too be lackluster but not bad. I found that the contents actually weren't that powerful so I quite casually ended up drinking a large amount of the product resulting in, a short time later, becoming extremely ill (delusion, disorientation, temporary eye impairment, painfully cramped muscles). Some five days later and I'm still recovering from side effects. Walmart is selling a rather high priced bottles of gin at a very low cost and still has much of the product in stock at the store I visited in Hangzhou. This is extremely dangerois and I sucpect that this product was one of about three similarly priced fake alcohol brands they are selling. I am curious what legal action could be taken from this dangerois malpractice and incompetent quality control issue since I fear this could happen to others. Gin is not popular in China and I assume that locals mostly walk past or drink in very small doses as is common for hard liquors in China.
