We bought a receiver from ritz camera 1-15-00. it was not compatible to our system so we took it back.. they were wanting to send us a refund in 30 days but, we told them that we will just put stop payment on the check. they said fine. On march 6, 2000, we recieved a letter from equifax stating that we needed to pay them 191.42 the amount of the check. my husband called and they said it was resolved on 3-10-00. We did not receive our check back. on 1-3-2001 we received notice from sky asset management that we owed the amount of 211.42 on that same check. My husband has talked to them extensively and they said everything was taken care of. Still no check was returned to us. We went to buy a trailer and found that it was put on our credit report which we have had excellent credit before so it has cost us hire in interest. They promised us it will be taken off of our report but it is still there. We are trying to get our trailer refinanced at a lower interest rate by the end of the month cause there is a special running at our bank. We found that that thing on our credit report cost us 50 points on our once good credit. What can we do??? Signed trudi and ron richards

First, you need to quit relying on everyone else to fix this problem... you need to take an active role.

Contact Ritz Camera and get them to give you a letter releasing you from any liability as to this transaction. They are the ones that started this and they need to end it!

Write a letter to the credit reporting agency(ies) that have this report, send it Certified RRR. Tell them the details and include a copy of the letter from Ritz. Demand that they remove this erroneous information from your record (you might also want to read the FCRA, Fair Credit Reporting Act at http://www.ftc.gov to see what your rights are).
Then follow-up with all the people who have contacted you and send them a copy of the Ritz letter and demand that they cease any further contact and that they correct THEIR credit reporting.

Finally, I must ask one question... it seems unusual to me for you to offer to stop pay on a check (bank charges for this!) rather than allow Ritz to handle this in their 'normal' manner. Why did you decide to incur the bank 'stop-pay' charges???
