What is the name of your state? Florida

I worked as a teacher at a school where I had a bad relationship with an aid there. We had a staff devolopment and I invited her and the other aid in my car so we can all go togother. While I did this I was trying to be friendly with her and in no way sexual and I tapped her on her shoulder. the one aid I did not get along with took it the wrong way and thought I was meaning some sexual innuendo when I had invited both aides and in no way meant it that way. I was not talked to by the principal and was not told anything about the incident. I figured nothing had happened. I had resigned from that school and was looking for jobs in another school. I had met a friend from that school who mentioned he would talk to the principal in his school about a job. The next day he called me and asked If I had sexualy harassed someone in that school? I said no but I thought about the incident that happened and the fact that nobody had talked to me in the previous school about the situation. In any case I feel like they spread rumors in the other school and that messed up my chances for further employment. Is there anything I can do?

There are thousands of posts similar to yours so I have prepared a standard answer:

Get a lawyer.

Invest $20K and three years.

Sue the bad people for defamation. (Libel is the general term for written defamation; slander is the general term for spoken defamation.)

If you win, expect them to keep doing it.

If you lose, expect them to keep doing it.

Stand by for other opinions.

the one aid I did not get along with took it the wrong way and thought I was meaning some sexual innuendo when I had invited both aides and in no way meant it that way. How do you know that's how she felt since the principal never spoke to you about it and you were not told anything about the incident? Presumably, the aide did not bring any kind of complaint against you.
