What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio. My cousin has asked me if her daughter could live me because she not able to take care of her at this time. I was wondering if private adoption is the way to go; I would love for her mother to still be able to see her and still have her rights too. My question is what would be my best course of action as far as adoption may go?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

An adoption is not suitable for the situation as you state it. You would be looking at guardianship.

Adoption of a child is a FOREVER solution, it's not like Adopt-A-Highway, which may only last a year or two. The bioparent(s) must both agree to completely give up the right to ever again parent their child.

I think that you need to slow down a bit. There is a huge difference between your cousin asking you if her daughter could live with you because she cannot care for her at this time, and any kind of an adoption.

In the first instance your cousin is asking you for some temporary help. In the second instance the child becomes YOUR child and the child's mother becomes a legal stranger. I sincerely doubt that is what your cousin has in mind.
