california- my husbands ex-wife just received an inheritance. we pay child support to her for 3 children. is it true that our child support can be lowered based on the amount of inheritance she received? how do we find out how much inheritance the ex-wife received?

My response:

In your fact situation, and when it comes to "child support," the answer is no. Had your question concerned "spousal support", then in that situation, an adjustment would more than probably have been made due to such "change in circumstances".

If you lived in Indiana, inheritance money COULD be considered in setting child support levels.

New case just came down in the last couple of weeks on this....

My response:

Fortunately or unfortunately - - depending upon which side of the fence you're on - - California doesn't recognize Indiana case law.

Therefore, my response stands.

I know, Silly Rabbit.

I was just offering it up as general information to show the differences between the states.

You mean there's really a difference? Gee, maybe we'd better start telling people to include their STATE NAMES!!

Hey, great idea. Maybe we should let the site administrator know our thoughts.

Maybe we could include a notice in BIG RED LETTERS, too!
