What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

So apparently my league had a vote that I was not aware of that changed our scoring system. It was originally setup so players who received kicks could add their TD's to their point total. It's a dumb rule, but it was the rule and I drafted accordingly...

Now they have decided to remove that scoring rule based on a majority vote. So now I have to suffer...voting by majority makes no sense. Thats like me and 4 other guys who don't have any good running backs propose a rule change that rb's only get 1 pt per TD (or whatever). Majority vote just makes no sense when it comes to rules...

Not to mention I just realized the rule this week when 2 of my receivers scored on kicking TD's and I'm currently losing by 10+ points w/ jones-drew playing tonight.

I want a refund since there were no documents addressing that rules could be changed and what the procedure would be. He is refusing to refund my money.

What is my legal recourse?

If you're not happy with it, find another league. I highly doubt you would be successful in court.

edit: And you were not "scammed". They made a rule change that you didn't like.

I see you have no legal background.

I agreed and paid based on a set of pre-written rules. I then selected my team based on those rules.

The rules were then changed when there was no mention of this in the original rules that were agreed upon. Not only that but it destroyed my whole strategy.

And check out espn.com - there is not one post from an experienced user who does not agree and the mod offered to over-ride the commish and change the rule back and award my points since he violated the original rules.

I'd agree that there is a breach of contract if the contact (is this what you mean by rules?) did not address changing the rules in mid-stream. It seems reasonable that you would develop plans based on the initial rules that might be bad under the new rules. I'm guessing that Small Claims Court would hear this.

Do the rules say the rules cannot be changed?

Why don't you sue and then come back with the case # to show off how successful you were.

Its hard to tell without the contract or "rules" listed, and without the roles defined. Your league commisioner may have the power to enact, dismiss, or modify any rule changes by some measure, such as a majority vote. To get a better answer you'll need to provide more details.
