I am a 29 year old student. I plan on going to medical school. The cost for the admissions test is about $250 and school applications are about $150 each. The AAMC (the organization that charges these fees) has a Fee Assistance Program (FAP). The requirement is the applicant's income has to be less than 300% poverty level. I made $0 last year. The only money I received was financial aid and that was below 300%, and it mostly went to my school. Because AAMC doesn't "draw distinction" between independent and depended students, my "parents" income was required. Their adjusted gross income is less than 300%. It's irrelevant because they don't give me money for anything. I was denied for the FAP, probably based off of my parents gross annual income. I can't afford these fees and I believe I meet the requirement for eligibility. What can I do?
