What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Minnesota

I have three children, 16, 15, and 12 and their father is going to move out of state to California for a new job position. As of current, the agreement is that he gets the girls every other weekend, every other holiday and 6 weeks out of the summer. He has not followed through with his parenting time and he has them about 1 weekend a month, two weeks in the summer, but he does take them every other holiday. His suggestion is every other holiday and two months in the summer. Also, he is expecting me to pay for traveling expenses. He makes twice as much money as I do. Now he lives 1.5 hours away and always has.

I need advice about traveling expenses, suggestions on parenting time for the kids, and anything else I'll have to deal with when he moves.

Thank you...

Tell him to pound sand on YOU paying for his expenses for HIS moving. That's wishful thinking on dad's part.

Google "long distance parenting plans" and you will get an idea of what might work for you.

that was my outloud laugh for the day. seriously. no court is going to make you pay the full cost of traveling when HE moved barring an extreme difference in incomes. that was funny.

fully agree.

I agree with the other response that you got on the travel expenses. The parent who creates the distance is the one who pays the travel expenses, particularly if that is the parent who makes more money. Do not back down on that one.

The norm for a long distance parenting schedule is every other Thanksgiving break, 1/2 of Christmas Break, every or every other Spring break, and anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of the summer.

While looking at long distance plans, also look at acceptable distances to airports & flight times.

In addition, look at "virtual" parenting time, including phone calls, instant messaging, emailing & webcams.

Thought process is that it works both ways.
