What is the name of your state? MA

Is the IRS the only agency allowed to intercept a tax refund? Also, what if another agency such as the California welfare department claims you are in arrears for child support but the DOR's child support order was stopped almost a year ago. I have stubs from the DOR were they actually sent me money back after the order was stopped. I currently do not have a support order against me from the DOR.

So you have no current order. Do you have arrears?

I don't have arrears with the DOR, but I do have arrears with the california department. I just don't understand why I have arrears with them when the DOR was enforcing the order on their behalf.

Both State and federal tax returns can be intercepted .

Request a print out of your account from every source .

Then compare it with what you owed and your payments .

And then stick with it!

After remand of my order by the Appellate Court and recalculation of support retroactive by the Superior Court, it took me over a year to obtain a correct audit by the DCSS in California.

All the while they pursued collection, even when the amount due was off by over $15k. They went so far as to pull all but $3500 from my bank accounts to pay arrears. Luckily, the audit correction that I had been actively pursuing came in just a few days after the funds had been taken, with the correct figures, so they returned the majority of the funds they took. Imagine how long it would have taken to have the audit corrected and funds returned if I had not been diligently pursuing a correct audit balance on arrears.

Point is....you really have to stay on it to get these things resolved. Lots of work, but well worth the end result.
