I hired an attorney to consult on a legal matter. After a couple of weeks I received a bill for over $2,500. During this time there was no face to face meeting. I was also charged twice for phone calls he made while he was in his car driving (over $200 each time). Another charge came while I was in the hospital recovering from surgery, with the conversation being mostly about the accident that landed me in the hospital ($100), and finally a charge to return a phone call asking for an explanation about the fees, which he left on my answering machine after 6PM. After all this time there was still no advice on how to proceed with the dispute.
I fired him and paid $2,000. $2,000 down the drain. Eventually I settled the dispute on my own.
I continue to receive bills and phone calls demanding the remaining balance. My question is do I need to pay the remaining balance. What recourse does he have? Should I just pay it and chalk it up to a bad experience? I don't want any trouble with this guy in the future.
