What is the name of your state?
MS

Something that eludes me altogether on fencing issues...firstly, a survey should solve any problem, considering all parties can read. Secondly, why, WHY ON EARTH, would anyone want something that did not belong to them? I would immediately want to rectify any boundary disagreement considering I'm looking at that individual for the remainder of the time I live at that residence. In addition, I'd promptly apologize and take them an olive branch.

Two reasons:

(1) Human nature

and

(B) So lawyers can make money.

#4. They believed they owned it (b/c when they bought it they were told where the boundaries were). But were too cheap to have a survey, and too stubborn to believe the boundaries when they are shown one.

There are places around here where, if you sent ten surveyors out, you would get 20 surveys back. There are section lines no one can locate!

I tell people not to build anything close to their boundary lines, especially a house!
