What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee

I've been on SSDI for about 14 years for both physical (connective tissue disease) and mental (depression) disabilities, and have been working a few hours a week as a cashier at a major department store; they are well aware that I'm on SSDI because I'm limited in what I can earn. Despite the fact that my employee reviews have been excellent, the manager and supervisor often told people I'm one of their best employees, and I've had numerous people contact the store to compliment me to the management, I haven't been put on the schedule for several weeks now....which is causing me extreme financial hardship.

When I called the supervisor at work to ask why, he pretended at first to not know who I was, then when I asked why I'm not on the schedule he said, "We're looking to hire - I mean, get - people who are willing to do more." I pointed out that I've never refused to do anything I was asked to and am always eager to learn. He said, "You shouldn't have to be asked." Well, every time I walk away from the register to try and do something (straighten, take defective items to the right place, etc.), another customer comes along to be rung up....so how can I do anything else? (And physically, I can't lift heavy things or be pulling racks around.) The truth of the matter is, I'm among the highest paid PT employees, that's why they're not scheduling me - they're looking for people who will work for the (newly increased) minimum wage. They don't even have the decency to lay me off so I can get unemployment.

So, the "official" excuse is "we want people who are able to do more." They knew I was on SSDI when they hired me.

My reviews say things like, "One of our best workers," and "the customers love her." The register where I work is constantly busy and they're getting good value for the small salary they pay me; this excuse is nothing but BS. How do I go about filing a complaint? TIA

If you are not getting hours you have effectively been laid off.

Consider contacting the unemployment office in Tennessee to discuss your eligibility.
