What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? the adoption took place in N.Y.
In 1969 I was adopted via a private adoption. I know very little about the situation except what my dad thinks he remembers the attorneys name being. He is sure of the last name but not the first or the spelling. Is there someplace I can go to look up attorneys with that last name in that time frame?
Thank you

I'm not sure it would help you even if you could; if it was a closed adoption, the attorney won't be able to tell you anything. That's if he's even still alive and practicing.

Not every birth mother wants to be found.

You could put yourself on a registry in NY for reuniting biological parents with adopted children. That way, everyone who wants to be found, can be found.

I know it is hoping for a miracle but I am hoping that she is looking for me as well. I actually did find his name. My dad was not sure, thought he knew what it was and it is so unique that it has to be him. Not sure what step to take next but feel that this is a step in the right direction. Not even sure I would want to actually meet her, just knowing who she is might be enough. I figure I will burn that bridge when I get to it. But thank you for answering so quickly

To expand on Silverplum's post, looks like this is your best option in NY:

An interesting article. Sounds like the author MIGHT be full of it, but it's worth a shot:

This is tough because you were adopted in a time when many adoptions were closes. We have been looking for my uncle for years because there is no way of finding out who or where he was placed. You can probably go through public records for the attorney's details, but this probably won't get you anywhere. The off chance that the attorney even remembers the case is rare, but he will have no legal right to tell you anything if the adoption were closed. The best thing you can do is take to adoption sites and hope to be reunited. A lot of people are posting pictures with their birth dates and all the info they know on facebook in hopes of being reunited. Every little thing helps, but I wouldn't burn your energy on the attorney.
