Can I use small claims to resolve any type of fines

If money is owed to you, and the amount it relatively small, then you may "use small claims" to resolve it.

However, if you owe money, then no, you can not file a claim with small claims to resolve it. You can pay the fine in full, ask if you can set up a payment plan, or, depending on the nature of the fine, attempt to dispute it. This will not happen in small claims unless the party that has issued the fine(s) has decided to go to small claims in order to get a judgement against you - at that point, you can respond to the petition, but unless you have a legally compelling reason for why you should not have to pay the fines, you will be dealing with a judgement against you.

I know the SCOTUS case in question. What I'm wondering about is what fine the OP wants to question and how he thinks the yet undecided Timbs v. Indiana is going to help him now?

Here is a link to llsucks other thread:
https://forum.freeadvice.com/threads/collections-from-citys-hired-law-firm.651345/

Based on the content of the other thread, it is possible that llsucks was fined by the city for some local violation and s/he owes the city money and the city is now trying to collect from llsucks what is owed.

PayrollHRGuy might have some interest in this thread. :)

I had deduced as much.

I just wanted to clarify for IL:( the basics of what small claims is for.

While I can appreciate IL:( is upset over whatever fines have been levied, IL:( has to learn the correct place and process for contesting these fines.
